I started this blog in order to chronicle my findings about researching and listening to the music of various countries/regions/places and cultures around the world. Many music blogs concentrate on genres or on finding new music, but I’ve seen very few that focus on discovering new music as music relates to the place it was created. At present, I plan on spending a month on each country/region/culture. While that’s not a ton of time, if I spend more than that I’ll never make a significant dent in all of the music the world has to offer. Considering the limited amount of time I have to find stuff, I’m not focused on doing in depth write ups, I just want to write a couple of sentences or aparagraph or so and provide a snapshot of some of the music I’ve heard.
It should also be pointed out that just because I post something, it doesn’t mean I like it or that I’m a fan (though I don’t plan on posting anything I loathe.) I’m just trying to learn what I can about a country’s music and will offer a little sampling of all that I find. Furthermore, I certainly am not pretending to be an expert or a musicologist. I like everything from rock to classical to folk to sacred to avante-garde to jazz. I’m trying to find a little bit of all of that from each country.
